Bill Cowher’s House in Raleigh, NC

Prologue - Since so many people visited this particular page recently, I decided to stick a note here since Bill Cowher’s resignation as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers on January 5th, 2007.

My first Steeler game was in 1993 when my Dad took me to a game at Three Rivers Stadium against the New Orleans Saints (we won 37-14). I’ll admit that I was more of a Pirate fan at the time - who wouldn’t be after the 3 consecutive NL East Pennants? I got my first Terrible Towel that day which I still use, faded as it is. Needless to say I was hooked from that point on. As many people my age have said, Bill Cowher is the only coach that I have known. It was comforting in a way to know, year after year, that Bill and his chin would be roaming the sidelines. It just seemed like it was the way things would always be. Seeing the statistic displaying Bill Cowher as the longest tenured head coach in the league was something I was proud of, feeling it represented the city well. After the incessant speculation of his retirement after this season, I slowly accepted the fact that he would step down. I’m disappointed to say the least, but as for the past 15 years, Bill Cowher has provided some extraordinary memories. We will miss you, Bill!

A few months ago I ventured into North Raleigh (I also live in Raleigh) to take a look at Bill Cowher’s 2.5 million dollar home. Here are a couple photos:

I think it is just amazing how much money people come here and make and then they take their money and leave. We could use the Cowers spending some of that money in the Burg. Not counting the tax dollars on a 2.5 million++++home would give back to the city.

Congrats Bill. Great taste in home selection. I was born and raised on the North Side of Pittsburgh and have been in Texas since 1985. Hint…the head coaching job here in Dallas will probably be open in 2008. Just cannot seem to get that “Pittsburgh out of me” as you so well put it today in your final press conference. Will always be a Steeler fan. Thanks for the memories and keeping the proud tradition rolling! God Bless you and your family.

P.S. I cannot tell you how many times I have used the “Y’unz” word here in Dallas and always get strange looks. :-)

Ironic that a hometown boy is not happy with only 4 million. Born and raised in a blue collar town where people scrimp and save to go to a game says a lot about the people of Pittsburgh but also a lot about a man who just isn’t making enough in his eyes. It is time to devote more attention to your wife who stood by you and accepted all of your actions, even as inappropriate as they were some time ago when you were anything but honest with her.

    Bill,

You are a selfish man. You only left the Steelers for the money, not your family. Your true colors will show when you take another job, just for the money. You made yourself the center of the team, always making an ordeal every time there was a replay needed. You would hold the red flag until the cameras focused on you. You had the best team in the AFC at least 5 times, and choked every time except when the team won in spite of you. The only reason you won that Super Bowl was that the team rallied around Jerome Bettis because they wanted to send him into retirement with a Super Bowl. You had absolutely nothing to do with that victory! You blew the other AFC championship games at home. Good riddence. I hope you go to another team and fall on your face.

  63. Cowher Hater wrote:

Thank you to the select few that had the courage to tell the truth about Cowher. If he were truly retiring from coaching, I would say thank you and good luck. But let’s be real. He quit. He did not retire. He smugly made sure he stressed the difference in the press conference when he walked out on the Steelers after helping destroy the team this year with his indecision and the controversy. How many of you bowing to this man will continue to do so when he comes back next year coaching the Bengals or the Browns and kicks the Steelers butts year after year? How many will think of him as a great man if he end’s up coaching the hated Cowboys this season and gets them their 6th Superbowl? That’s what’s in store for this man. He has no loyalty and no honor. How many other coaches would have been given 15 years only to win one Championship? Good riddance and good luck with coaching the likes of Randy Moss and T.O., egos you never had to endure in Pittsburgh.

Hey Dave, open your eyes that are blinded by your Black and Gold stupidity. Cowher quit on us last year!!! He is not quitting to spend time with his family!! He looked for a convenient exit so he could get more money. If his family was so important, why did he wait until his two oldest girls were in college to quit? He missed their entire high school years. Now he has one daughter left in high school (with only 1 year left) and he decides to move further away from the two daughters in Princeton? Give me a break! You can’t see this? He will be coaching the Washington Redskins in 2008 after Daniel Snyder gives him $10 million a year, which is what he wanted to stay here. If he was given $10 million per year in his contact extension offer with the Steelers, he would still be here and you would not be defending him. One Super Bowl in 15 years is not a hall of fame coach. He sucks and I hope he falls on his face when he comes back in 2008! Cowher Flower!

Statistically speaking, the chance of going to the Super Bowl is 1 in 16 years and the chance of winning the Super Bowl is 1 in 32 years. Coach Cowher went twice and won once in a 15 year period. I’ve been a Steelers fan since 1979 so I don’t think that it’s a big deal to dwell on the playoffs not won. The playoffs and Super Bowl are both fickle things - the best team, the best QB, the best coach doesn’t necessarily win. Sometimes, it’s an intangible (such as the desire to win for Jerome Bettis last year) that can give you the ring. I wish nothing but the best for you, Coach Cowher. Thank you for a job well done!! P. If that were the case, you already missed their highschool years and most of your youngest daughter’s senior year. That leads us to believe it IS all about the money. Just remember, the money you made in Pittsburgh is why you were able to afford that beautiful house in NC and you and your family were able to live a pretty good lifestyle. Talk of Hall of Fame credentials for Cowher seem a little shallow when you remember how the Steeler’s were out coached in numerous playoff games. He’ll never be confused with Belichick game day coaching. While I’m not his biggest fan, I am a lifelong Steeler fan. Let’s give Coach Cohwer his due. He was great with personnel. He mirrored the blue colar mentality of Pgh. And he never embarassed the organizaiton or the city- which is no given these days. As any hard-working person, he deserves to enjoy the fruits of his efforts, and if he and his wife decide to enjoy that fruit in Raleigh, that’s there decision - God Bless ‘em.

I am not originally from Pittsburgh, but I reside here now. What I have seen from the many Steelers’ fans in the past, is loyalty, pride and investment into the team, it’s players, coaching staff and management. What I see from them now, is a two-faced, childish bitterness and anger toward Bill Cowher (yes, that is indeed the correct spelling), who was successful and is now retiring and has earned every cent that went into this house — or for that matter, any house that he owns. I sense envy? Regardless of what the circumstances are, I wish Bill Cowher and his family all of the best. If others can retire from good jobs with good money and move wherever they want, he should be able to do the same, without scrutiny! So get over it, people, and find something more constructive to say.
