Matt- I’m a huge fan of your work! Love Pittsburgh. I’ve tried emailing you about obtaining permission to use your images for a school project… Please get back to me if you can!!
July 4th, 2007 at 11:49 pm
Your photos always leave me with a warm heart and a proud smile. Truely, someplace special.
July 5th, 2007 at 12:27 am
Matt; you’ve got a great eye…the one black and white from Carnegie Tech was marvellous…more would be fine by me. PPG, in any light, and you’ve captured most of them, is amazing.
Asking you to keep it up, would, I think, be unnecessary. Much harder getting you to stop. Don’t stop!
So lovely looking in on the ‘burgh from here in China, year after year.
July 5th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
Thanks again for more great pics of the beautiful Pittsburgh.
July 5th, 2007 at 9:57 pm

July 11th, 2007 at 8:54 am
I have been away from the ‘burgh for almost 8 years, and am moving back in october. The sheer beauty of your pictures assures me I am making the right decision. You have captured not only the beauty of the ‘Burgh, but, the heart and soul of it as well. Thank you!
July 11th, 2007 at 10:19 am
Matt,
You did it!!! You captured some of the best shots of Pittsburgh I have seen. All you sites and angles are good but your perspective is the GREATEST, you looked beyond the picture. Keep clicking!!! Makes me want to grab my camera and go. Thanks.
July 11th, 2007 at 12:25 pm
When I looked over ALL of these pictures, it made me extremely homesick! I left Pittsburgh in 1989 and miss it terribly. Thank you for the wonderful memories that your beautiful pictures have brought back! They are just breathtaking! GO STEELERS!!!!

July 13th, 2007 at 12:38 am
Mark, your photos leave me speechless. I must say though, I looked at your photos of other cities. They are all great, but your photos of Pittsburgh are magical.
July 13th, 2007 at 12:41 am
I would love to see your magic put to Philly and Baltimore
July 14th, 2007 at 4:37 pm

July 20th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
Matt, Your photos really brought back memories for me. I was born and raised in Pgh, the areas of South Side, Greenfield, and Lincoln Place. We just moved to Weirton in October to get away from the rush. But I sure do miss pgh the most, my family and I always walk on 5th ave and watch the St.Paddies Day Parade. Makes me want to come back and make me think of my childhood days. Thank you for the walk down the memory lane as well.
Thank you.
July 21st, 2007 at 1:28 am
Nice pics of your city! Im in New Zealand a country of about 4 million people! I can see that if I ever visited, I would get overwhelmed by the hugeness of your city

But hey, we have evrything else….gorgeous beaches, snowy mountains, rivers, farm country etc etc. Oh and cities and towns too
July 21st, 2007 at 5:37 am
Wonderful pictures to us here in Michigan. No, we are not transplants we just love Pittsburgh. You capture the city and ther various events like noone else can. thank you.
July 22nd, 2007 at 8:29 pm
This is why I miss this city so much.
Thank you for great images.
July 22nd, 2007 at 11:57 pm
To all of you that left Pittsburgh for jobs, I did too. But I came home 2 years ago, moving back here after 7 years in VA is the best move I ever made. That feeling you get when you look at these fantastic pictures, about how much you miss home, thats your mind telling you that all that money you make doesn’t fill the viod of not being home. Our families, our city, our football, our work ethic, you can’t get that anywhere else. Come home, you only live once, the Burgh is only place for true quality of life and I couldn’t raise my kids anywhere else. The Burgh is on the rise again.
July 23rd, 2007 at 5:14 pm
AMEN! I am coming home too! Now I can get a tech job there! It was only a matter of time! I cant wait to come home! 12/07!
July 24th, 2007 at 6:42 am
The best pictures of the best city in the USA! I would love to see some pictures of Shadyside–hint hint
July 25th, 2007 at 9:08 pm

July 26th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
WOW! What Fantastic, many unusual, shots of The Burgh. They really capture the beauty of Pittsburgh. Thanks!
July 26th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Every time I get homesick I look for your new pics, You have a great way of capturing the true essence of our great city, I’m so proud to say that the ‘burgh is where my heart lies, even though I no longer live there. A million thanks and keep up the great work.
July 27th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
Can’t stop smiling!! God, I miss all of this…after 28 years of living in Florida, this beautiful city of Pittsburgh is still HOME. The photos are fantastic; lots has changed in all these years, but the breath of the city is omnipresent, even in photos; so much more I want to see….Shadyside, Highland Park, THE STEELERS, Oakland, the Museums, the Strip District. More, more, more, please. East End, Frick Park, Market Square, Carnegie Mellon U; U of Pittsburgh Cathedral. Thanks for your fine work; will keep checking in.
July 28th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
You have a wonderful eye for the right photograph. Pittsburgh is a great city with good people. You reflect it well. Keep up the good work and I would love to see different cities in your work. It lends a new perspective.
July 28th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
These are wonderful pictures. Every time I look at them, Iget a big smile on my face. How much I miss my home town. You sure don’t get this in Florida. There have been a lot of changes over the years and I was there for most of them. Pittsburgh will always be HOME!! Thanks for the wonderful pictures.
July 30th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
Matt, fantastic pictures that reinforce what a great place Pittsburgh is! Left Pittsburgh 6 years ago but get back to the ‘Burg’ about every three months or so. The comments on this post are what make Pittsburgh so great…folks realize what a gem Pittsburgh is and never lose their sense of home. Run into former Pittsburghers all over Raleigh, NC and most really miss being back home…GREAT WORK!!
July 30th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
Ever since i left pittsburgh to get away from the cold and into some sunshine in sw florida, i have had pittsburgh withdrawls. You just cant beat the feeling and the people when your in the burgh, so i thank you for providing me with a dose of the burgh till i return home.
July 31st, 2007 at 9:10 pm
graet work, and great eye for light..love your work!
August 2nd, 2007 at 10:24 pm
Wow, these are the most incredible photos! I too am one of those who “left the burgh” many years ago. I still come “home” every year and I must say I miss it more each time I visit! Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos, you have a gift for showing what Pittsburgh is truly like!
August 4th, 2007 at 11:31 am

August 6th, 2007 at 12:54 am
As much as i visit Pittsburgh I NEVER get tired of looking at the shots taken on this website. Incredible work!
August 8th, 2007 at 3:05 am
so this is what the east coast looks like… i love it, and i hope that i will one day get to make it out there to render in the beauty.
August 8th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
I retired to Myrtle Beach and I have to say that the only thing it has over Pgh is that the sun shines more and the sky looks bigger. However, once a Pittsburgher always a Pittsburgher. This is the first time I have viewed your pictures and it overwhelms me. I miss our town but especially the Steelers. I am thinking of moving back home. You are making the decision easier. Thank you.
August 8th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Left the area in 87. Live in the Rocky Mtn foothills now But your pictures Do The Burgh justice. They remind me of the things I miss about the place. Maybe one day….
August 9th, 2007 at 1:43 pm
Those pictures are spectacular/ Makes me proud to live close to such an awesome city. You did a really great job capturing the heart of Pittsburgh. Keep up the great work
August 10th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
YOU ABSOULTELY CAPUTRED, the TRUE BEAUTY OF PITTSBURGH!! Im PROUD To LIVE HERE, 30 years & counting! Thanks for the breathtaking pictures of the,’BURGH’!!! Keep up all the Work!
August 13th, 2007 at 10:43 am
I am from Pittsburgh. I am now living in LA. These pictures make me yearn for my Home. GO STEELERS!!!
August 14th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
I have been living in LA for 30 years too and it has never felt like home as much as Pittsburgh has. LA may be beautiful in its own way but doesn’t have the “homey” feel that Pittsburgh does.
August 17th, 2007 at 9:07 am
I have a dear friend who lives in Pittsburgh and I’ve visited the city twice. I was already in love with Pittsburgh from my very first visit, and these photos just point out more to love! Your work is just phenomenal! You are able to open people’s hearts with your visions! Thank you for making my morning so bright!
August 20th, 2007 at 12:52 pm
Great pictures of my hometown. My husband and I relocated to Charlotte, NC last year for employment purposes. I greatly enjoy where I live now, but will always love where I come from!
August 20th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
Viewing these pictures makes me more aware why I love this area. Am so grateful that God blessed me to be born and raised here — and I just enjoy all of these breathtaking shots! Thank you so much for your extra-ordinary photography!
August 21st, 2007 at 7:32 pm
From Gateway Center in the 50’s until now. I left in 1960 but still cherish my memories of the Point framed by the Westend bridge. Terrific pictures!
August 21st, 2007 at 11:58 pm
I left Pgh. in 1959 and build custom pools here in N.California. If I could do that in Pittsburgh I would move back in a hot minute .Your photos sure tug at the heart strings of a native son .
August 22nd, 2007 at 12:20 am
Hey your photos are great! Makes me miss the old town. I just joined a Pitts. club here & I’m going to pass your site on to all the members in it. Thanks for sharing your photos with us.
August 22nd, 2007 at 8:50 am
The black and white photos are great!!! The rest of the pictures are professional and amazing.
Great job
August 22nd, 2007 at 5:25 pm
I’ve been a ‘Pittsburgher’ all my life, but having viewed these amazing pictures, I have a new appreciation for my home town!
August 23rd, 2007 at 12:49 am
Though I live in Arizona, my heart has always been in the rolling hills of Pittsburgh where I was born. Your pictures are wonderful and help me keep up with the changes that have taken place, since I left that wonderful area.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:26 am
i was raised on the 32nd block of the south side of Pgh. moved 20 miles of Erie City to a small town. these pictures are great. I miss the steel mills & the smoke. the hollow was a good place to live as a kid.
August 23rd, 2007 at 8:03 am
As a Western PAer that grew up in Clairton, graduated from the U. of Pittsburgh, attended Duquesne U. for a semester, I frequently went to the Burg. Whether marching in parades in high school, performing with the U. of Pittsburgh Marching Band at Three Rivers, going to Forbes Field as a kid to watch the Pirates (and as a Pitt student, I “saw” some of the games from Hillman Library), going to Mt. Washington after a date to “pop a bottle of Cold Duck” as we took in the view of downtown, or recently (10 years ago) dining at Station Square, I’ve always been fascinated by Pittsburgh and Pittsburghers. Even though I’ve lived away from the Pittsburgh area for over 30 years, these pictures still tug at my heart. A BIG THANK-YOU MATT for your professionalism in photography. You have captured the unexplainable that many displaced Pittsburgher and Steelers fans can know only in their hearts.
August 23rd, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Matt, after viewing your photographs and reading these posts, I want to thank you for making SO many people happy and homesick. You are an artist in every sense of the word! The Pittsburgh skyline is as diverse and welcoming as it’s people.. I just got back from visiting my family about a half hour ago, and I am enjoying an IC Light and a smuggled Primanti Bros. sandwich. While driving back into my “Shiny, new, and BLAND” sunbelt city, I know there is no comparison! I took advantage of so many things the Burgh has to offer while I was back. I am proud to be a Pittsburgher and it will be my home again soon. Your work just bolsters my decision. Thank you and God Bless! LOVE YOU PITTSBURGH!
August 24th, 2007 at 12:05 am
Again..truly beautiful shots. How about some of Kennywood? So many memories are there for all of us!
August 24th, 2007 at 8:39 am
Magnificent photo imagery. Would like to have seen one or two exiting Fort Pitt Tunnel inbound (daylight and night).
Time slips by quickly and oh so quietly as I remember growing up with the Gulf Building & it’s nightime colored peak - the tallest building at that time, Downtown trolley cars with their sparking electric overhead wires, J. Horne’s packed with an ocean of humanity during the Christmas shopping season, no Fort Pitt Tunnel, no “bridge to nowhere”, the “Point” bridge, elbow to elbow in the PRR Station, “County Airport”, Campbell’s Run Road to the “new airport”), the Nixon, Hotel Roosevelt, before the Civic Arena, Forbes Field, the Hot Dog shop and always and forever - the Oyster House, Phipps Conservatory and The Carnegie Museum & Library. There was and “is” so much more,,,,,,,,,
August 24th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
真漂亮 我要去美国
August 25th, 2007 at 10:06 am
Matt,
These pictures make me miss home. We have lived away from Pittsburgh for 10 years and have a tendancy to think about the rain & snow, but your photos bring out the best of the ‘burgh. Who knows, maybe we’ll move back.
GREAT WORK!

August 25th, 2007 at 6:48 pm
WOW, thank you! Another “I miss home” from me. Thanks to all that wrote too, glad to know I am not the only one that misses and loves Pittsburgh with all their heart. I fly the city of Pittsburgh flag outside my house and have claimed this 1/4 acre of Columbus, OH as Pittsburgh-West
until I can return home!!!!!
August 26th, 2007 at 4:57 pm
Matt,
Thank you for this outstanding collection of the ‘best city there is.’ I’m proud to call Pittsburgh my home town!
August 26th, 2007 at 7:49 pm
These pictures are beautiful. I went to list a house two days ago and there was a painting of Pittsburgh on the floor. It was done by an unknown artist, some 50 years ago. I recognized the landmarks, and complemented the owner on the picture. It made me feel nostalgic, but you have made Pittsburgh come alive. Fantastic job. Thank you for sharing them with the world. We used to live there and still love to see it.
August 27th, 2007 at 7:06 am
BEAUTIFUL!!!!! The pictures made me realize how much I miss Pittsburgh! Florida is nice, but Pittsburgh is BETTER!!!!!!
August 27th, 2007 at 7:56 am
WOW… great site with great pictures. You are truly talented with your camera. Thanks for the great site!
August 27th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
These pics are incredible……I would love to see more Zambelli fireworks though. I was born & raised in Pgh., moved to San Diego for 15 years, came back home to Pgh. for another 10, and now live in TN. almost 2 years, and hate it! I came home for 3 days the 1st week of August and I miss Pgh. already. I’m trying to talk my fiance into moving. I’m soo homesick….and these pictures make me even more homesick. There’s no place like home!
August 27th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
I am so proud to be from the city of Pittsburgh. No matter where you go, if you say Pittsburgh, everyone knows about it and says, “ohohhhhh your from Pittsburgh” the Pittsburgh Steelers!!! ANd that gorgeous skyline, what else could you want!
August 27th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Your pictures are truly beautiful. Our city is the best in the world for all kinds of reasons….it’s beauty…..people….diversity…schools…hospitals…..and sooooooo much more. I’m happy and blessed to say it is my home. Born and raised here……70 years and counting. Thank you so much for a job well done.
August 28th, 2007 at 11:28 am
Wow, even more beautiful pic!! Makes me so proud to call it home! (Even though I live in Orange City, Florida now, it’s beautiful too, in it’s little country way!)
August 30th, 2007 at 11:16 am
What a beautiful city we have. I’m proud to be a Pittsburgher. There’s nothing better than a cold Iron city beer and the “PITTSBURGH STEELERS” go “STEELERS”
August 30th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
What a beautiful city. I am proud to be a Pittsburgher. There isn’t nothing better than a cold Iron city beer and the “PITTSBURGH STEELERS” GO STEELERS!

Great photos. Makes me proud to be from Pittsburgh!
September 5th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
Worked in pgh in1958 on Nke-missile site and visited friends in the nort side of Pittsburgh next to state prison. I enjoyed the pictures and would like to see some pictures of past and present. Joseph C. StPierre Manchester NH
September 5th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
These Pittsburgh pictures were spectacular; I miss the city but how it has changed. I moved here to Arizona years ago but would move back in a heartbeat.
September 20th, 2007 at 2:12 pm
Being a native ‘Burger who has been displaced in the south since 1985, no one understands my attraction back to the city and why I go back several times a year and always wear Steeler gear to all my football games until I showed them your web site and slide show. After 22 years you can still figure out where I am from just from my accent…what accent? Always proud to be a ‘Burger. Thanks for the smiles! What a fantastic mixture of the old and the new and how well it works!
September 21st, 2007 at 10:54 am
Where is the Mellon arena?
September 24th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
I HATE your pics…..they make me miss home too much. I Live in Florida and I dont get home too much, but I think about Tha Burgh and talk about it almost every day. I have your site favorited so that when you take more pics I can get on and stare at them and make myself even more homesick. Well done. Keep em coming.
September 27th, 2007 at 2:56 am
I am a long way from home. My family all still lives in Pittsburgh and I try to visit as often as I can. These pictures are spectacular. I would love to use one for a screen saver so every time I sit down I am reminded of the beautiful place I will always call HOME! Thanks Matt!
September 28th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
I was born and raised in greater Pittsburgh in the 30’s & 40’s. Left when 15. I still think of it as home. The photos are superb. Would like to see a photo of red-hot slag being dumped into the Ohio river at Ambridge. The sight was spectacular even if was a bit unwise frrom the enviromental aspect.
October 7th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
I’m sooooo! sad I had to move away. This place is beautiful, and lots of fun. I’m glad I get to come & visit several times a year!:)

November 9th, 2007 at 6:44 pm

San Franisco is The City By The Bay, Manhattan The Big Apple , Pittsburgh however is America’s Best Kept Secret……. Come to the “BURGH” you may just make it your home.
January 21st, 2008 at 6:37 pm
The pictures on your site are spectacular, actually makes one like myself who has been forced to find work elsewhere (D.C) a bit teary eyed. I still have family in the Burgh and come back as often as I can. One day, God willing, I will be back in the city that has no rival in my mind. Please keep up the excellent work and I look forward to your further additions. Cheers!
February 5th, 2008 at 1:15 am
The pictures are absolutely amazing. Left W. Homestead in 1969 for Texas. This brings back a lot of great memories.
How about some pictures of The Waterfront and Sandcastle.
February 23rd, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Grew up in the early ’30s on the heights above “Sawside”. Your SUPERB water reflection photos are second only to the image burned into my brain of the colors in Pittsburgh WHEN THE JONES AND LAUGHIN BESSEMERS BLEW!! With a low cloud deck overhead, the gorgeous colors were not only reflected in the three rivers, but were painted on the clouds overhead. No colored film then. This was the only time the city was even more beautiful than in your marvelous photography. Your “Norfolk Southern through downtown” is SO SPECIAL. Other shots are missing: the Inclines, an onion dome church over a steeply wooded creek ravine, chipped choppedham BBQ rolls, pierogis, Pitt campus from the top of the Cathedral of Learning and Panther Hollow. Wish you had been around with your modern camera in the ’30’s….which was truly the ‘Burgh’s heyday. We “yinzers” dig you, Matt.
May 19th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
I loved your photos. Do you have any views from LaMonte overlooking the city at night? We were just there for a wedding and it was breathtaking.
May 27th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Two friends of mine were from Singapore — a beautiful international city. The first thing they said after we went through the Fort Pitt Tunnel: “Wow! What a beautiful city.” I think that’s as high a compliment you can get. And then they met the people… they didn’t want to leave.
June 7th, 2008 at 7:18 am
From Britain
Hi to Ernie, Pittsburgh looks a beautiful place, it was lovely to see so many incredible photos.
June 15th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
60 years ago tonight I graduated from Peabody High School. So where is the Cathedral of Learning? That was Pittsburgh’s big building in those days. Super pictures! Gorgeous to see, but I love Virginia.
June 24th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
My dad was born in the ‘Burgh and raised in Greensburg, and at 81 he is still proud of the city and of Pennsylvania, even in retirement down in Florida. (After the Korean War — Marines, trench warfare — he could no longer take the cold.) I moved here because my dad kept telling me that was a wonderful place where he grew up.
I moved here to start a new political movement, for the civil rights of European-Americans. Pittsburgh is so appropriate for this; it is the true capital of the American Heartland!
