Matt; you've got a great eye...the one black and white from Carnegie Tech was marvellous...more would be fine by me. PPG, in any light, and you've captured most of them, is amazing.

Asking you to keep it up, would, I think, be unnecessary. Much harder getting you to stop. Don't stop!

So lovely looking in on the 'burgh from here in China, year after year.

Hi there

I too am no longer in Pittsburgh and am in North Carolina. I was home to the city this weekend and someone turned me on to your site. Gorgeous and breathtaking. Any way these photos can be used as a screensaver?

Let me know please. I'd love to show your work off on my pc.

Blessings

I have been away from the 'burgh for almost 8 years, and am moving back in october. The sheer beauty of your pictures assures me I am making the right decision. You have captured not only the beauty of the 'Burgh, but, the heart and soul of it as well. Thank you!

Matt, Your photos really brought back memories for me. I was born and raised in Pgh, the areas of South Side, Greenfield, and Lincoln Place. We just moved to Weirton in October to get away from the rush. But I sure do miss pgh the most, my family and I always walk on 5th ave and watch the St.Paddies Day Parade. Makes me want to come back and make me think of my childhood days. Thank you for the walk down the memory lane as well.

To all of you that left Pittsburgh for jobs, I did too. But I came home 2 years ago, moving back here after 7 years in VA is the best move I ever made. That feeling you get when you look at these fantastic pictures, about how much you miss home, thats your mind telling you that all that money you make doesn't fill the viod of not being home. Our families, our city, our football, our work ethic, you can't get that anywhere else. Come home, you only live once, the Burgh is only place for true quality of life and I couldn't raise my kids anywhere else. The Burgh is on the rise again.

Can't stop smiling!! God, I miss all of this...after 28 years of living in Florida, this beautiful city of Pittsburgh is still HOME. The photos are fantastic; lots has changed in all these years, but the breath of the city is omnipresent, even in photos; so much more I want to see....Shadyside, Highland Park, THE STEELERS, Oakland, the Museums, the Strip District. More, more, more, please. East End, Frick Park, Market Square, Carnegie Mellon U; U of Pittsburgh Cathedral. Thanks for your fine work; will keep checking in.

There have been a lot of changes over the years and I was there for most of them. Pittsburgh will always be HOME!! Thanks for the wonderful pictures.

Matt, fantastic pictures that reinforce what a great place Pittsburgh is! Left Pittsburgh 6 years ago but get back to the 'Burg' about every three months or so. The comments on this post are what make Pittsburgh so great...folks realize what a gem Pittsburgh is and never lose their sense of home. Run into former Pittsburghers all over Raleigh, NC and most really miss being back home...GREAT WORK!!

Wow, these are the most incredible photos! I too am one of those who "left the burgh" many years ago. I still come "home" every year and I must say I miss it more each time I visit! Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos, you have a gift for showing what Pittsburgh is truly like!

I retired to Myrtle Beach and I have to say that the only thing it has over Pgh is that the sun shines more and the sky looks bigger. However, once a Pittsburgher always a Pittsburgher. This is the first time I have viewed your pictures and it overwhelms me. I miss our town but especially the Steelers. I am thinking of moving back home. You are making the decision easier. Thank you.

I have been living in LA for 30 years too and it has never felt like home as much as Pittsburgh has. LA may be beautiful in its own way but doesn't have the "homey" feel that Pittsburgh does.

I left Pgh. in 1959 and build custom pools here in N.California. If I could do that in Pittsburgh I would move back in a hot minute .Your photos sure tug at the heart strings of a native son .

Though I live in Arizona, my heart has always been in the rolling hills of Pittsburgh where I was born. Your pictures are wonderful and help me keep up with the changes that have taken place, since I left that wonderful area.

As a Western PAer that grew up in Clairton, graduated from the U. of Pittsburgh, attended Duquesne U. for a semester, I frequently went to the Burg. Whether marching in parades in high school, performing with the U. of Pittsburgh Marching Band at Three Rivers, going to Forbes Field as a kid to watch the Pirates (and as a Pitt student, I "saw" some of the games from Hillman Library), going to Mt. Washington after a date to "pop a bottle of Cold Duck" as we took in the view of downtown, or recently (10 years ago) dining at Station Square, I've always been fascinated by Pittsburgh and Pittsburghers. Even though I've lived away from the Pittsburgh area for over 30 years, these pictures still tug at my heart. A BIG THANK-YOU MATT for your professionalism in photography. You have captured the unexplainable that many displaced Pittsburgher and Steelers fans can know only in their hearts.

Matt, after viewing your photographs and reading these posts, I want to thank you for making SO many people happy and homesick. You are an artist in every sense of the word! The Pittsburgh skyline is as diverse and welcoming as it's people.. I just got back from visiting my family about a half hour ago, and I am enjoying an IC Light and a smuggled Primanti Bros. sandwich. While driving back into my "Shiny, new, and BLAND" sunbelt city, I know there is no comparison! I took advantage of so many things the Burgh has to offer while I was back. I am proud to be a Pittsburgher and it will be my home again soon. Your work just bolsters my decision. Thank you and God Bless! LOVE YOU PITTSBURGH!

Magnificent photo imagery. Would like to have seen one or two exiting Fort Pitt Tunnel inbound (daylight and night).
Time slips by quickly and oh so quietly as I remember growing up with the Gulf Building & it's nightime colored peak - the tallest building at that time, Downtown trolley cars with their sparking electric overhead wires, J. Horne's packed with an ocean of humanity during the Christmas shopping season, no Fort Pitt Tunnel, no "bridge to nowhere", the "Point" bridge, elbow to elbow in the PRR Station, "County Airport", Campbell's Run Road to the "new airport"), the Nixon, Hotel Roosevelt, before the Civic Arena, Forbes Field, the Hot Dog shop and always and forever - the Oyster House, Phipps Conservatory and The Carnegie Museum & Library. There was and "is" so much more,,,,,,,,,

Matt,
These pictures make me miss home. We have lived away from Pittsburgh for 10 years and have a tendancy to think about the rain & snow, but your photos bring out the best of the 'burgh. Who knows, maybe we'll move back.
GREAT WORK!

WOW, thank you! Another "I miss home" from me. Thanks to all that wrote too, glad to know I am not the only one that misses and loves Pittsburgh with all their heart. I fly the city of Pittsburgh flag outside my house and have claimed this 1/4 acre of Columbus, OH as Pittsburgh-West ;-) until I can return home!!!!!

These pictures are beautiful. I went to list a house two days ago and there was a painting of Pittsburgh on the floor. It was done by an unknown artist, some 50 years ago. I recognized the landmarks, and complemented the owner on the picture. It made me feel nostalgic, but you have made Pittsburgh come alive. Fantastic job. Thank you for sharing them with the world. We used to live there and still love to see it.

These pics are incredible......I would love to see more Zambelli fireworks though. I was born & raised in Pgh., moved to San Diego for 15 years, came back home to Pgh. for another 10, and now live in TN. almost 2 years, and hate it! I came home for 3 days the 1st week of August and I miss Pgh. already. I'm trying to talk my fiance into moving. I'm soo homesick....and these pictures make me even more homesick. There's no place like home!

These Pittsburgh pictures were spectacular; I miss the city but how it has changed. I moved here to Arizona years ago but would move back in a heartbeat.

Being a native 'Burger who has been displaced in the south since 1985, no one understands my attraction back to the city and why I go back several times a year and always wear Steeler gear to all my football games until I showed them your web site and slide show. After 22 years you can still figure out where I am from just from my accent...what accent? Always proud to be a 'Burger. Thanks for the smiles! What a fantastic mixture of the old and the new and how well it works!

I HATE your pics.....they make me miss home too much. I Live in Florida and I dont get home too much, but I think about Tha Burgh and talk about it almost every day. I have your site favorited so that when you take more pics I can get on and stare at them and make myself even more homesick. Well done. Keep em coming.

I am a long way from home. My family all still lives in Pittsburgh and I try to visit as often as I can. These pictures are spectacular. I would love to use one for a screen saver so every time I sit down I am reminded of the beautiful place I will always call HOME! Thanks Matt!

I was born and raised in greater Pittsburgh in the 30's & 40's. Left when 15. I still think of it as home. The photos are superb. Would like to see a photo of red-hot slag being dumped into the Ohio river at Ambridge. The sight was spectacular even if was a bit unwise frrom the enviromental aspect.

The pictures on your site are spectacular, actually makes one like myself who has been forced to find work elsewhere (D.C) a bit teary eyed. I still have family in the Burgh and come back as often as I can. One day, God willing, I will be back in the city that has no rival in my mind. Please keep up the excellent work and I look forward to your further additions. Cheers!

Grew up in the early '30s on the heights above "Sawside". Your SUPERB water reflection photos are second only to the image burned into my brain of the colors in Pittsburgh WHEN THE JONES AND LAUGHIN BESSEMERS BLEW!! With a low cloud deck overhead, the gorgeous colors were not only reflected in the three rivers, but were painted on the clouds overhead. No colored film then. This was the only time the city was even more beautiful than in your marvelous photography. Your "Norfolk Southern through downtown" is SO SPECIAL. Other shots are missing: the Inclines, an onion dome church over a steeply wooded creek ravine, chipped choppedham BBQ rolls, pierogis, Pitt campus from the top of the Cathedral of Learning and Panther Hollow. Wish you had been around with your modern camera in the '30's....which was truly the 'Burgh's heyday. We "yinzers" dig you, Matt.

Two friends of mine were from Singapore -- a beautiful international city. The first thing they said after we went through the Fort Pitt Tunnel: "Wow! What a beautiful city." I think that's as high a compliment you can get. And then they met the people... they didn't want to leave.

My dad was born in the 'Burgh and raised in Greensburg, and at 81 he is still proud of the city and of Pennsylvania, even in retirement down in Florida. (After the Korean War -- Marines, trench warfare -- he could no longer take the cold.) I moved here because my dad kept telling me that was a wonderful place where he grew up.

I moved here to start a new political movement, for the civil rights of European-Americans. Pittsburgh is so appropriate for this; it is the true capital of the American Heartland!
