My first Steeler game was in 1993 when my Dad took me to a game at Three Rivers Stadium against the New Orleans Saints (we won 37-14). I’ll admit that I was more of a Pirate fan at the time - who wouldn’t be after the 3 consecutive NL East Pennants? I got my first Terrible Towel that day which I still use, faded as it is. Needless to say I was hooked from that point on. As many people my age have said, Bill Cowher is the only coach that I have known. It was comforting in a way to know, year after year, that Bill and his chin would be roaming the sidelines. It just seemed like it was the way things would always be. Seeing the statistic displaying Bill Cowher as the longest tenured head coach in the league was something I was proud of, feeling it represented the city well. After the incessant speculation of his retirement after this season, I slowly accepted the fact that he would step down. I’m disappointed to say the least, but as for the past 15 years, Bill Cowher has provided some extraordinary memories. We will miss you, Bill!
